Double the fun for TJAM4x4 Club
Friday, August 17, 2018
It was two days of fun for the hardcore and adventurous members of the Toyota Jamaica 4x4 Club (TJAM4x4Club) who made the trek to Paradise Park in Westmoreland last weekend.
It was the club's first- ever overnight camping event.
“The event went great. It was fantastic judging from the feedback of all the persons that we spoke to. They all thoroughly enjoyed the venue, the camping, even the off-roading drive to the beach. Some commented that this has been the best one so far,” Howard Foster, sales and marketing manager of Toyota Jamaica, told the Jamaica Observer's weekly Auto magazine.
The two-day event began early Saturday morning, August 11, as all participating members met in St Elizabeth and then drove in a convoy to Paradise Park, which proved perfect for the activities. Once settled in with their various camping gear, many sampled the cool river building up an appetite for afternoon lunch. While there were some nods to modern facilities, many stuck to what nature had to offer with late-night movies and music under a bonfire-lit night sky. The following morning, a few delved into the other offering of the venue: a Caribbean-blue, white-sand beach, before heading home that afternoon.
“We had about 25 vehicles that showed up and around 80 persons,” said Foster.
Foster said the two-day camping event will become a permanent part of the club's roster and should feature strongly next year.
“We're not planning another just now, but it should be part of our calendar of our 4x4 excursions. The plan is four for the year, so at least one should be a camp-over.”
With the first overnight event under its belt, Foster said the club is looking forward to the fourth event for the year in November. He said this would be a regular event, for which he is already scouting locations in Portland.
