Tuesday, September 11, 2018
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaican company Technological Solutions Limited (TSL), headed by Dr Andre Gordon, has been contracted by Caribbean Agricultural and Research Institute to revise the CARICOM standards and Code of Practice for the packaging of natural coconut water in the region.
A statement from the company today said that a team will be meeting with coconut-water industry stakeholders in five CARICOM countries -- Guyana, St Lucia, Dominican Republic, Suriname and Jamaica.
According to the statement, Dr Gordon headed a research team from 2004-2007 which conducted a study on coconut water production that could identify a means of assessing the quality of the product for a growing market.
This, TSL said, resulted in research and development of science-based approaches to improving the production, quality and shelf life of bottled coconut water that has become the basis of a guidance document produced by the Food and Agriculture Organisation that is being used globally by the bottled coconut water industry.
