Buju Banton said it best: “Many see the glamour and the glitter and think (it's) a bed o' rose…” For decades, generations even, many parents from western Jamaica — wanting an international education for their children — would dispatch them across the globe, mainly North America or Europe. It seemed elitist and glamorous. But there was often a devastating sting in the tail.
