Thursday, September 06, 2018
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Cornwall College extended their hold on the Jackson Shield, the preseason one-day tournament played against long-time rivals Munro College, to an eighth-straight year after they played out a 2-2 draw at Cornwall College on Saturday. The Jackson Shield comprises two matches featuring the schools' daCosta Cup team and the Over 35s.
As holders of the shield, Cornwall College retained the title with the draw in the games that were played in Montego Bay for the first time since 2015, after the last two renewals were played at Munro College in St Elizabeth.
Cornwall College's daCosta Cup team wrapped up their preseason preparation for the start of the competition by beating Munro 1-0, while the Munro College's Over 35 team rallied from a goal down in the first half to win 2-1.
In the daCosta Cup game, Shavon McDonald capitalised on a goalkeeper's error when his shot passed between the legs of the Munro 'keeper and across the line in the first half of the game.
Both schools will start their daCosta Cup campaigns on Monday.
Cornwall College will be at home against Irwin High, while Munro College will host Newell High.
