MONTEGO BAY, St James — Top-ranked teams Cricket Club Knights and Granville Jaguars will be seeking to wrap up their Western Basketball Association (WBA) Elite League best-of-three semi-final series when they take on Holland Saints and Catherine Hall All-Stars, respectively, in today's second games at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
They scored contrasting wins in Tuesday's first games. The red-hot Cricket Club Knights extended their winning run to nine-straight with a 16-point, 77-61, victory over Holland Saints, while Granville Jaguars rallied in the final eight seconds to beat Catherine Hall All-Stars by one point, 66-65.
Today Catherine Hall All-Stars will seek to level their series against Granville Jaguars in the first game starting at 6:15 pm, while Holland Saints and Cricket Club Knights meet in the 8:00 pm game.
On Tuesday Leroy Lawrence's double-double led defending champions Granville Jaguars to their come-from-behind win and also snapped their two-game losing skid at the end of the regular season.
After trailing through the first three quarters, 11-24, 27-39 and 42-50, Granville pulled to within two points with just about eight seconds to go, when teenager Brendan Dawkins hit a three-point basket coming from a timeout to give a one-point lead.
Catherine Hall missed a big chance to win, but with three seconds to go Kurt Dorman's shot was blocked.
Granville had just two players with double-digit scoring as Lawrence led with 22 points and 25 rebounds, and Dawkins scored 18 points.
Michael Schloss had a game-high 28 points for Catherine Hall, as Goyan Malcolm scored 17, as Jermaine Rerrie had 12 rebounds and Craig Dorman had 10.
After trailing Holland Saints by 14 points, 6-20, at the end of the first quarter, Cricket Club Knights then rebounded to outscore them by 30 points, 71-41, over the next three quarters.
