NATIONAL Housing Trust (NHT) 'A' chalked up their third consecutive win by defeating Jamaica National (JN) Group 52-19 as the 2018 Business House Netball Association (BHNA) Senior 'A' League continued at the Leila Robinson Courts last Saturday.
Prior to winning against JN Group, NHT 'A' had defeated defending champions Scotiabank 49-34 the previous Saturday, and Appliance Traders Limited (ATL) 44-24 on Saturday, August 11. They are the only unbeaten team in the Senior 'A' League.
Goal-shooter Thristina Harwood led the scoring for NHT 'A' with 28 goals from 37 attempts, Abigail Linton added 13 goals from 17 attempts, while Taj-Marie Marsh with 11 goals from 19 efforts was the principal scorer for JN Group.
In the win against Scotiabank, Harwood was also the principal scorer as she netted 39 goals from 40 attempts, while Tennisha Bernard added 22 goals from 33 attempts, and Shadian Hemmings netted 10 from 12 attempts scored for Scotiabank.
NHT A' coach Christopher Smart said that though his side's win over Scotiabank, the defending champions are still the team to beat, as there will be a second meeting in the round-robin format of the competition.
'I will not be taking any chances with Scotiabank as they are a very good and experienced team. We would like to top the preliminary round and to avoid going into the play-offs,' Smart said.
Meanwhile, Winston Nevers, coach of Scotiabank, said the team needs to improve in defence and also their shooting if they are to defeat their opponents in the return match.
'NHT 'A' played extremely well and I give them credit as their shooters are shooting well along with their centre court players who took control of the game early. We will be coming much stronger, especially in the shooting department and also to match our opponents in mid-court plays,' Nevers said.
In another Senior 'A' League game, Appliance Traders Limited Group (ATL) 'A' registered an exciting and thrilling 40-38 win over Ministry of Education and Youth (MOEY) 'A'. Goal shooter Monique Emery with 24 goals from 38 attempts and goal-attack Conique Moore with 15 goals from 25 attempts were the main scorers for the victors.
Newcomer Lannamans and Morris Shipping Limited continued their smooth run in the Senior 'B' League when they beat National Commercial Bank (NCB) 32-18 through Lamesha Thorpe's 23 goals from 45 efforts, while Patricia Reid led the scoring for NCB with 13 goals from 21 attempts.
Another newcomer, Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) are also doing well in the Senior 'B' League as they defeated Ministry of Education and Youth (MOEY) 'B' 43-33. Brianna Boyd scored 24 goals from 35 attempts and Shanice Pryce got 19 goals from 32 attempts for KSAMC, while Diana Millwood led the scoring with 30 goals from 47 attempts for MOEY 'B'.
Jamaica Public Service defeated WISYNCO in a high-scoring game, 65-41, in an Intermediate A League encounter.
In the Intermediate B League matches played last Saturday, ATL 'B' got past Guardian Life Group 21-19; Sutherland Global Services defeated LASCO 31-25, JMMB Bank got past Guardsman Group 26-23, while Cable and Wireless/FLOW Jamaica and University Hospital of the West Indies played to a 22-22 draw.
