Warriors send message in Jayhawks rout

MONTEGO BAY, St James — MoBay Boys' Club Warriors sent a strong message that they will be hard to beat after they hammered UWI-WJC Jayhawks 96-61 in Game One of the Western Basketball Association Men's Division One best-of-three finals at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Sunday.
David Gordon just missed a double-double in the 35-point rout, scoring a game-high 32 points and had nine rebounds. He led the Warriors in the demolition of the outmanned Jayhawks team that had just seven players available compared to the full complement of 12 available to their rampaging opponents.
Jayhawks were held to single digits scoring in the first two quarters as Warriors led 17-9 and 38-17 after the first and second quarters, respectively.
There was a briefly rally in the third quarter when Jayhawks outscored Warriors 26-22 but that only served to put a small dent in the deficit as they were still behind by 17 points, 60-43, going into the final quarter where they were outscored 35-18.
Andre Hayles was the other Warriors player to score in double digits with 10 points as Rhyheem Barrett and Alek Gilchrist both got 10 rebounds.
Three players scored in double digits for Jayhawks. Antonio Spence scored 18 points, Odane Whittaker scored 13 and had eight rebounds, while Kyle Schloss scored 13 points and also had eight rebounds.
